Barbarians at the gate

Following world condemnation, Iran is said to be “reviewing” the stoning-to- death sentence of a 43-year-old widow convicted of – not premeditated murder- but the unforgivable crime of adultery.

If the human rights outcry is successful, the mother of two will just be hanged, instead.

This is the mindset of certain, stuck-in-the- Middle Ages countries the civilized world thinks they can deal with.  It wouldn’t be surprising if these same countries next instituted burning at the stake.

To comprehend just how utterly barbaric a stoning is, I suggest readers view the recently released movie, “The Stoning of Soraya M.”   Based on a true account, the film tells the story of Soraya, a young housewife and mother, who in 1986 was buried to her waist in her Iranian hometown square and stoned to death by her fellow villagers.

A word of advice: don’t buy any popcorn to munch while watching this film.

Without going into the gory details, suffice to say that in most stoning cases, the woman is buried up to her neck, and onlookers are invited to pelt the poor soul with rocks until she’s dead.  However, there’s game rules.  You mustn’t use a large enough stone that would knock her unconscious or kill her outright – no, you must only use a stone large enough to knock out teeth, eyes, break the nose and pulverize her head into a bloody mass.  The sinner must suffer mercilessly, and for many hours before she’s allowed to die.

Where is the women’s rights movement?  They should be taking to the streets, worldwide, in a relentless mass movement to put an end to this barbarity.

Not only feminists should be aghast at this barbarism; the same fate awaits homosexuals and political prisoners. At least it’s in the public conscience through the internet and YouTube. Thank you too, Shani, for for your part in condemning this atavistic practice. Iran is fooling no one. They are a wily and dangerous enemy.

I would like to know why all the supposedly “moderate” Muslims consistently remain silent when there are so many opportunities to speak-out. We are constantly told that these atrocities are perpetrated by a small fringe of extremists and we shouldn’t condemn the entire religion.
Again I ask, where are all the moderate Muslims and why do they stay silent????

If anyone wants to know why we need to oppose these extremists, just think of the consequences if, as they wish, their version of the law was practiced worldwide.
